Michelin Stars in the Baltics: Discovering the Best Fine Dining Spots

Once overlooked on the global culinary map, the Baltic countries are now gaining attention from the Michelin Guide, thanks to a new generation of chefs who blend local ingredients, ancient traditions, and bold modern creativity. If you’re planning a gourmet journey through Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia, here’s your guide to the top fine dining spots — including the Michelin-starred and Michelin Green Star restaurants you won’t want to miss.

Estonia: The Baltic Star Pioneer

Estonia was the first Baltic country to receive Michelin Guide recognition, and Tallinn leads the way with its vibrant food culture rooted in Nordic clarity and local produce.

 Michelin-Starred in Tallinn:

  • NOA Chef’s Hall (1 Michelin Star) With sweeping views over the Gulf of Finland, NOA Chef’s Hall offers an unforgettable tasting menu emphasizing fermentation, wild herbs, and precision. It’s a must-visit for those who appreciate elegant storytelling through food.

  • 180° by Matthias Diether (2 Michelin Stars) A fine-dining experience in the Noblessner harbor, where German-born chef Diether fuses technical excellence with Baltic flavor palettes.

Latvia: Classic Elegance Meets Modern Craft

Latvia joined the Michelin map in 2023, with Riga revealing its growing role as a regional culinary hub.

 Michelin-Starred in Riga:

  • Max Cekot Kitchen (1 Michelin Star) Hidden in a repurposed warehouse, this restaurant is an immersive experience. Expect up to 14 artfully composed courses — refined, local, and deeply seasonal.

  • OHN Chef’s Hall  (1 Michelin Star) It‘s an intimate 6 table, 16-seater affair. It overlooks the kitchen pass, where you can watch the chefs preparing a tasting menu that reflects both the country and the seasons.

Lithuania: A Rising Culinary Star

Lithuania landed on the Michelin Guide map in 2024 with 4 Michelin-starred restaurants. Although Lithuania waited the longest for its Michelin stars, it received the most of any Baltic country.

Michelin-Starred in Vilnius:

  • Džiaugsmas (Joy) (1 Michelin Star) This restaurant was created for those who see food as an opportunity to add more joy to their lives. Chef Martynas Praškevičius says that joy has a way of multiplying. It becomes even greater when we share it with others. That‘s why at Džiaugsmas you’re encouraged to make your dinner a collective experience, rich in a variety of flavours, laughter and good mood.

  • Nineteen18 (1 Michelin Star) In Vilnius’ historic centre, this industrial-style restaurant offers a relaxed yet refined dining experience, where a sealed menu reveals around 10 thoughtfully connected dishes. Highlights include mushroom dumplings and Danish beef with chicken caramel, all crafted with fresh produce from their own farm and served by Chef Andrius and his welcoming team.

  • DEMO restaurant (1 Michelin Star) The restaurant is located in a slightly unconventional multifunctional loft space that enables the staff to interact with their guests in a very direct and human way, without any pretension or strict protocol.

  • Pas Mus (At Our Place) (1 Michelin Star) A cosy, minimalist and slightly nostalgic space created by the chefs based on their ideas. The restaurant boldly explores new flavours, and the dining experience is made complete by the immediacy of the interaction. We are an open kitchen in every sense, a contemporary and informal restaurant.
